The union representing workers at the Canberra Airport says it is confident concerns about safety will be addressed.

The Transport Workers Union (TWU) says there have been a number of worrying safety incidents at the new terminal and has called for immediate action.

TWU representatives have met with the Canberra Airport Group and Qantas and says agreement has been reached to remedy the situation.

"Canberra Airport Group and Qantas have realised that members' concerns are legitimate and warranted and they've acted on those concerns," said TWU spokesman Ben Sweaney.

"They've agreed to implement processes that will reduce those risks that are unacceptable from an occupational health and safety view for the day-to-day operation of an airport."

But Mr Sweaney says there are still several outstanding issues.

"We hope that within a seven day period that members will receive a response that's satisfactory to them for reducing the immediate risk to their health and safety while undertaking the important duties of operating an airport on a day-to-day basis," he said.
